Mabel Rose Day Centre

A unique service for people living with dementia, situated within the countryside

Always there for your loved ones

We offer a unique service for people living with dementia which is located close to the village of Little Plumstead. We are not far away from Norwich, Wroxham and the Norfolk Broads and are easily accessed via the NDR.

‘Our club’ is set within 8 acres of our farm. Set back off the main road we are able to enjoy the peace and tranquillity the countryside has to offer. Sitting outside during the day in our secure garden listening to the birds, chatting to friends or participating in an activity is something our members enjoy.

As a family run business with over 30 years experience in caring for people living with dementia, we fully understand the increased needs and pressures that face you and your family at this difficult time.  All our staff are fully trained in caring for people living with dementia.

Your well being is important to us, and we endeavour to help you feel at ease. We treat you as an individual and as we get to know you, we tailor your care programme to your particular needs, providing care, support and suitable activities.

We appreciate the importance of independence and living life to the full, and we strive to ensure that all our members have an enjoyable day with us.

No matter what your age, interests, skills, strengths and support needs, we provide a stimulating atmosphere, where good quality life experiences can be enjoyed.

We encourage potential members and their family to come and have a look round whereby you can meet Sam, her staff and our lovely members. You are able to arrange a free trial day following your visit.  Please contact Sam to book a suitable time for a visit.

We have a large spacious indoor activity area which has easy flowing rooms enabling us to provide you with a safe space.  We offer a variety of meaningful activities and therapies suitable for all to enjoy.

Adjacent to our centre we have a conservatory and secure garden area.  A lovely area for green fingered members who have the opportunity to help pot up plants to put in our raised flower and vegetable beds.

At the bottom of our garden is ‘home’ to some chickens and ducks.  Members can help collect the eggs or enjoy watching the ducks splash about in their little pond.

All our activities are carefully planned so they impact well-being, cognitive function, social engagement, spatial reasoning, fine motor skills, stimulate memory and language skills.

We like to keep active whether it be joining in with the morning chair based exercise class, going for a walk, playing a game of pool or joining friends in a bean bag or balloon game which at times can get quite competitive and certainly brings lots of laughter to the room.

You can join in playing board games with friends or participating in completing a jigsaw puzzle.

Our spacious centre has its own large dining area where members can draw, colour or stencil. Our separate arts & crafts room is where we use different textures, fabrics and materials which can provide sensory stimulation and comfort. We use bright colours, patterns and textures which help stimulate visual awareness and engagement.

Our pool table is situated in this room for those members to enjoy

The comfy lounge is where you can sit and read the daily paper, relax and chat to friends or enjoy a classic comedy programme or movie afternoon.

Our newly refurbished textiles room is where members can engage in textile-based activities like sewing, knitting and needle craft which can stimulate both memory and motor skills offering a sense of purpose and accomplishment.

Some members may want to try their catering skills, so a fully equipped kitchen is available for them to cook alongside a member of staff.  We enjoy baking cakes and scones and making sausage rolls and cheese straws.

Music and singing is an important part of our day. Music is proven to have therapeutic benefits for people living with dementia. You may like to join our choir which runs 3 days a week. We have a large array of cd’s for members to choose their preferred artist or songs.

Memories are very important to the person living with dementia. We use our reminiscence boxes, music, singing and conversation to recall those special times

The Pamper Room is an area for relaxing whilst enjoying a selection of calming person-centred therapies. We have a chiropodist who visits regularly

We have specific activities for those members whose dementia is more advanced. Our therapy dolls and companion animals are very calming and comforting. We also have a variety of fidget blankets and sensory touch activities which help manage anxiety or restlessness.

Angela from Reminiscence East visits us every month for an enjoyable morning of chat, fun, stories, memorabilia and dressing up.

Wendy from Pets as Therapy and her lovely golden retriever Lacee pops in every month. Our members enjoy making a fuss of Lacee. She definitely puts a smile on their faces.

Different musicians visit us throughout the year

We offer a suitable day for younger people living with dementia.

Throughout our years of working with carers and people with dementia we have identified the need to provide quality services for younger people living with dementia.

Currently our youngest member, born in 1969, enjoys socialising with our younger members. Even at a younger age everyone has different skills, interests, strengths and support needs. Our focus is on independence, well being and keeping active!

It is important to recognise that the needs, challenges and support young people with dementia and their families face differ quite considerably to that of our older members and we’re here to help and support you along your journey
